Japan is becoming a super-aged society, with 31.7 million people over the age of 65 years accounting for 28.7% of the total population. Accordingly, prolonging the healthy life expectancy has become an urgent issue. The Faculty of Life Sciences at Kumamoto University established the Center for Metabolic Regulation of Healthy Aging (CMHA) in May 2018 to promote research on aging and healthy longevity, including elucidation of aging mechanisms and the development of novel preventive and treatment methods for diseases related to metabolism, circulation, cancer, and the nervous system that can reduce healthy life expectancy.
“Challenge from Kumamoto for the Extension of Healthy Aging” is an international symposium organized by the CMHA in conjunction with the 36th International Kumamoto Medical Bioscience Symposium. We aim to promote research on prolonging healthy life expectancy in Japan through lectures on the latest discoveries from experts on aging and longevity, metabolism, circulation, cancer, and the nervous system as well as through broad interdisciplinary academic exchanges. Through this symposium, we hope to contribute to the formation of an international network of researchers in the field of healthy longevity by providing the latest knowledge and stimulating international collaboration, especially among young researchers,
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the symposium will be held in a hybrid format. We hope that many people will participate.
